LOXC RUNNERS PLACE AT JO NATIONALS

Three LOXC boys traveled to cold Spokane, WA, to compete in the 2006 USTFA Junior Olympics National Cross Country Championships on Saturday, December 9. In the Intermediate Boys Division (for those born in the years 1990 and 91), Elijah Greer placed an outstanding 14th overall of the 185 finishers with a time of 16:37. All runners had previously qualified through their State and Regional championship meets. Chris Caldwell placed 61st overall with a time of 17:27. Both LOXC runners competed for the local Oregon Cross Country club, which placed second in the nation behind only the Federal Way Track Club of Federal Way, WA.

The OCC team consisted of some of Oregon's top junior harriers and included Samot Turina (4th overall/16:19) of Central Catholic, Greer (14th), Nathan Mathabane (37th/17:01) of Lincoln, Matt Hedges (39th/17:04) of Wilson, Caldwell (61st), Austin Jones (75th/17:40) , Peter Slauson (92nd/17:50) and Brandon Kohler (99th/17:56) all of Central Catholic.

In the Young Mens Division (birth year of 1988 or 89), LOXC's Alex Martin placed 58th overall with a time of 17:18.

The trio completed their XC season over a challenging 5,000-meter course that had been cleared of the recent snow.
